How was the goddess Manasa born ?
According to the 'Shiva Purana', once "Nagmata Kadru Patal people built an idol in the hope of having a daughter". At that time, 'Mahadev' and 'Goddess Parvati' were playing in the form of snakes, then a divine energy emanated from the body of Mahadev and as soon as he fell in the idol, life was established in that idol.
Being the daughter of Mahadev's mind, Nagmata named her 'Manasa'. During the construction of the idol, Kadru forgot to give her an eye, which is why the one-eyed goddess Manasa is blind.
According to the Mahabharata, when 'Maharaja Janmejaya' was performing the serpent-killing yajna, "Sage Jaratkaru's son Astik" went there and praised that yajna and Maharaja Janmejaya. Satisfied with his praise, Janmejay stopped the yajna. The mother name of this sage believer is also 'Jaratkaru' who is the 'Goddess of Nagkul'. This Jaratkaru is 'Goddess Manasa'.
