Sri Ramachandra's father was King Dasaratha. Who was the father of Dasaratha ?
Dasaratha's father's name was 'Aja'. Maharaja 'Aja' was the 38th king of the Suryavansh. His father was 'Maharaja Raghu', after whom the dynasty was named Raghuvansh. Aja's wife 'Indumati' was a Vidarbha princess. Indumati was a nymph named 'Harini' in her previous birth. Harini breaks the Tapasya of 'Maharshi Trinbindu' at the behest of Devaraja Indra, as a result of which Maharshi Trinbindu curses her to be born as a mortal woman on earth. When he apologized for the crime, the Maharshi said, "On the day when a garland of flowers falls on his neck from the sky, he will be free from the curse." Harini was then born as the Vidarbha princess, and when her autobiography was written in due course, she accepted Maharaja Aja as her husband. Dasharatha was born a year later. When Dasaratha was only eight months old, one day 'Devarshi Narad' was flying over Ayodhya when suddenly a garland of flowers fell from his hand which was worn around the neck of Queen Indumati. At that moment Queen Indumati is released from the shop and goes to heaven as her divine nymph. The Maharaja still could not bear the separation of his wife and died in the river Saryu.
