Legend of Jalandhar and Brinda. Origin of Tulsi and Shalgram Shila.

Image
According to the story narrated in 'Shiva Purana' and 'Devi Bhagavata Purana' , once "Devaraja was coming to Mount Kailash for the purpose of meeting Indra Mahadev" . At this time Mahadev lay down on the way to Kailasa in the form of 'Aghori' to test Indra's patience. Indra did not recognize Shiva as 'Aghori' and ordered him to move away from the path, but Aghori did not move at all. Even after repeatedly saying that Aghori did not move then Indra wanted to remove him by force. But all the weapons of Indra failed in front of him, which made Indra angry and hit Shiva on the head with lightning. When Mahadev became angry and tried to burn him with the third eye, Indra recognized him and turned to Shiva. In this Mahadev forgave Indra and threw his fury 'into the sea' .            When Shiva's fury goes to the sea and meets, a child is born from him. 'Daityaguru Shukracharya' took the responsibility of rais...

Krishna's skin color is blue or black ? Krishna means black, but why is he shown blue in pictures or images ?

Image
The color of Lord Krishna's skin is blue or black. It is the eternal confusion of human beings.           The Vishnu Stotra says,            शान्ताकारं   भुजगशयनं   पद्मनाभं   सुरेशं           विश्वाधारं   गगनसदृशं   मेघवर्णं   शुभाङ्गम्  ।           Translation - Always calm is his form, who sleeps in the bed of the Sheshnag, from whose navel the lotus originates, who is the lord of all gods, he is the base of the whole world, eternal like the sky and his color equal to the clouds           According to the Puranas, the color of Lord Vishnu's body is "equal to the rain cloud, that is, slightly black, slightly blue".        Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Krishna with his complete art. So the color of the body of Lord Krishna and the color of the body of Lord Vishnu are the same.   ...

Why is Lord Shiva or mother Durga called Trinayana and Trinayani ?

Image
'Mahadev and mother Durga' have three eyes hence they are called  'Trinayan and Trinayani'. There are different aspects of this trinayan, on the one hand it means that Mahadev is keeping an eye on the trilok i.e. "heaven, mortal, underworld" by his trinity. On the other hand, by this trinayan he has been referred to as Trikaladharshi , meaning that nothing of the 'past, future, present' is unknown to him. According to a story in Shiva Purana, once Goddess Parvati grabbed Mahadev's eyes from behind with her hand, which caused darkness to descend on the whole earth ( the reason is that according to the Puranas, the moon and sun are in the two eyes of Mahadev ). Mahadev immediately opened his third eye to dispel the darkness, which caused a terrible fire to burn all around ( because fire resides in his third eye ). In Puranam, Mahadev burnt 'Kamadeva' with his third eye. Creation is never possible without lust, but when man becomes lustf...

Exactly how many people did Lord Krishna marry? How many children did he have?

Image
Details of the wives of Lord Krishna are given in the "Tenth Skanda of Srimadbhagavata Mahapurana". I am trying to give a brief description from there. Lord Krishna had '8' chief wives , who were called 'Ashtavarya'. 1 / Rukmini             Rukmini was the first wife of Lord Krishna and the daughter of 'Vidarbharaj Bhismak'. Rukmini's elder brother Rukmi arranged her marriage with 'Shishupal' , but Rukmini wanted to accept Lord Krishna as her husband. For this reason he secretly sent a letter to Lord Krishna to take him away. Lord Krishna defeated 'Rukmi' and took away Rukmini. 2 / Satyabhama                  Satyabhama's father 'Satrajit' was the richest man in Dwarka. He had the divine 'Samantak Mani' as a gift from the 'Sun God' which produced '20 manas' of gold every day. But Satrajit suspects that Lord Krishna may want to steal the money. On this su...

Sri Ramachandra's father was King Dasaratha. Who was the father of Dasaratha ?

Dasaratha's father's name was 'Aja' . Maharaja 'Aja' was the 38th king of the Suryavansh. His father was 'Maharaja Raghu' , after whom the dynasty was named Raghuvansh. Aja's wife 'Indumati' was a Vidarbha princess. Indumati was a nymph named 'Harini' in her previous birth. Harini breaks the Tapasya of 'Maharshi Trinbindu' at the behest of Devaraja Indra, as a result of which Maharshi Trinbindu curses her to be born as a mortal woman on earth. When he apologized for the crime, the Maharshi said, "On the day when a garland of flowers falls on his neck from the sky, he will be free from the curse." Harini was then born as the Vidarbha princess, and when her autobiography was written in due course, she accepted Maharaja Aja as her husband. Dasharatha was born a year later. When Dasaratha was only eight months old, one day 'Devarshi Narad' was flying over Ayodhya when suddenly a garland of flowers fell from...

If Gautama Buddha had been with Arjuna in place of Lord Krishna during the battle of Kurukshetra in the Mahabharata, would he have advised Arjuna? What was the war then?

First we memorize a verse from the Srimad Bhagavat Geeta यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत | अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम् || 7|| परित्राणाय साधूनां विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम् | धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय सम्भवामि युगे युगे || 8|| BG 4.7 :  Whenever there is a decline in righteousness and an increase in unrighteousness, O Arjun, at that time I manifest myself on earth. BG 4.8 :  To protect the righteous, to annihilate the wicked, and to reestablish the principles of dharma I appear on this earth, age after age.         God never confirmed the number of his incarnations. But according to the Puranas, a list of 64 incarnations, 39 incarnations and 24 incarnations has been made. But his list of 10 avatars is the most popular. Because in these 10 incarnations, just as evolution has been shown, so has the social system at different times. These 10 incarnations are - "Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narsingh, Baman, Parashuram, Rama, Balarama, Krishna and Kalki". This is ...

"Harekrishna Harekrishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare" - What is the meaning of this Mahamantra ?

Image
The Mahamantra 'Hare Krishna' is composed of the singular "Hare", "Krishna", and "Ram" Sanskrit words. It is a stanza of a 'inconsistent rhyme' (a four-line verse consisting of eight letters). Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare              According to Vaishnava etymology, the word "Hare" can be expressed as an adjective for another name of Lord Vishnu, "Hari", meaning "one who liberates worldly illusions". So the word ‘Hare’ in the original mantra of this Hare Krishna is indicative of the word ‘Hara (i.e., that which deprives)’. Its embodiment is the eternal companion of the Absolute Being Krishna or the power of his Divyalila 'Radha'.             Radha's name has been mentioned eight times in the Kali-santarana mantra. It is reminiscent of divine love. At the same time, the other two forms of God "Krishna (who attracts everyone) and Rama...

Origin of Adyashakti Mahamaya

Image
Energy is never created or destroyed, only transformed. In the same way Adyashakti Mahamaya Adi-Antahin, in 'Markandeya Purana' and 'Devi Bhagavata' he has been called devoid of creation and has been praised as Parameswari.             When time did not even exist before the creation of the universe, only "Paramabrahma, Parameshwara Bhagavan Srihari Vishnu" was sleeping in the eternal bed. Then Adishakti exists in his eyes in the form of 'Yoganidra'. And when Lord Vishnu's sleep is disturbed, he becomes known as 'Jogmaya' or 'Mahamaya'.            In the beginning, when he chanted 'Brahma' to be saved from the hands of 'Madhu-Katav' , at that time his first manifestation came from the 'eye' of Lord Vishnu. For this reason she is called 'Vishnumaya'. In Vishnu Purana he is called 'Param Vaishnavi'. Jogmaya is usually formless but sometimes she is accepted as the 'Eight armed go...

Signs of Kali Yuga

The incident a few years after the Battle of Kurukshetra. One day the Panchpandava went to Lord Krishna and said, "O Madhusudan, our minds are getting very restless, our minds are not sitting on the throne and there are some problems that are beyond our judgment."          Hearing their words, Lord Krishna said, "Kali Yuga is coming, so there is such a problem under the influence of Kali. You all go out on a journey, everyone will go separately. You will each see some amazing things, go and discuss in the evening." Everyone went out separately as per Krishna's words and when they came back in the evening they sat down to discuss.               At first Yudhisthira said that as he was walking along, he suddenly saw "an elephant with two trunks, that elephant entered through a narrow tube and came out through the other side but surprisingly its tail got stuck in it."               Explain...

Devadasi Pratha

It is believed that this devadasi practice started in 600 AD. According to this custom, young virgins were married to the gods and given to the temple because of their religion. But Kautilya's 'Arthashastra' mentions this practice, which dates back to around 300 BC , proving that the Devdasi practice predates it. According to many, this practice started from the time of 'Gautam Buddha' . But during the Gupta period most Devadasi were seen in India.              These types of women who were married to gods were called devadasi. Devdasi used to look after the mass temple, collect worship materials and perform dances and songs in the temple. It is mentioned in the poem Meghdootam by the great poet Kalidasa.           It is believed that the practice of Devadasi was the cause of extreme adultery. The priests and special guests of the temple are believed to have physically abused the Devadasis. But many historians reject th...

How was the goddess Manasa born ?

Image
According to the ' Shiva Purana' , once "Nagmata Kadru Patal people built an idol in the hope of having a daughter" . At that time, 'Mahadev' and 'Goddess Parvati' were playing in the form of snakes, then a divine energy emanated from the body of Mahadev and as soon as he fell in the idol, life was established in that idol.                Being the daughter of Mahadev's mind, Nagmata named her 'Manasa' . During the construction of the idol, Kadru forgot to give her an eye, which is why the one-eyed goddess Manasa is blind.                   According to the Mahabharata, when 'Maharaja Janmejaya' was performing the serpent-killing yajna, "Sage Jaratkaru's son Astik" went there and praised that yajna and Maharaja Janmejaya. Satisfied with his praise, Janmejay stopped the yajna. The mother name of this sage believer is also 'Jaratkaru' who is the 'Goddess of Nagkul'. This Jaratkaru is 'Goddess...

What is the relationship between the color gerua and Hinduism?

The monks wear gerua. If you want to know the reason for wearing this color, you have to know the quality of a monk first.                 The monk is always a 'steadfast' person. Now the question is who is sthitaprajna? In the second chapter of the Srimad Bhagavat Geeta , the Lord describes the qualities of a steadfast person. श्रीभगवानुवाच | प्रजहाति यदा कामान्सर्वान्पार्थ मनोगतान् | आत्मन्येवात्मना तुष्ट: स्थितप्रज्ञस्तदोच्यते || 55|| BG 2.55 :  The Supreme Lord said: O Parth, when one discards all selfish desires and cravings of the senses that torment the mind, and becomes satisfied in the realization of the self, such a person is said to be transcendentally situated. दु:खेष्वनुद्विग्नमना: सुखेषु विगतस्पृह: | वीतरागभयक्रोध: स्थितधीर्मुनिरुच्यते || 56|| BG 2.56 :  One whose mind remains undisturbed amidst misery, who does not crave for pleasure, and who is free from attachment, fear, and anger, is called a sage of steady wisdo...

Lord Krishna had promised before the battle of Kurukshetra that he would not take up arms, but His Majesty rose to strike Bhishma with the wheel of the chariot. Did it break the word of Lord Krishna? If so, what is the rationale behind it?

Image
Lord Krishna took up arms to teach ' Arjuna and Bhishma'.                      The battle of Kurukshetra was a battle for the rights of the Pandavas, but the innumerable Rathi-Maharathis and the seven Akshauni armies who fought with them had no personal rights or interests but still took part in the crusade believing in Arjuna's bravery and prowess. It is the duty of Arjuna and other Pandavas to protect them. But Arjun was not fulfilling his duty completely.                      When Arjuna was fascinated to see his relatives on the first day of the war, Lord Krishna bestowed upon him the knowledge of the priceless Bhagavad Gita and freed him from filth. But even if Arjun's guilt was removed in the case of others, Arjun would be fascinated when he saw his grandfather Bhishma. Arjuna's grandfather could not kill Bhishma but if Arjuna had fought with his full strength, it would no...

The master of sin

One Pandit, after studying the scriptures in Kashi for many years, returned to his village. On his return, a farmer from the village asked him, "Well, Pandit Babu, you have studied a lot. Can you answer me a question?" The pandit said, "Tell me the question?" Then the farmer said, "Well, Pandit Babu, who is the master of all these sins in this world?"              Pandit was shocked to hear the question. He began to think to himself, "There is a guru of the past and the spiritual. But is there also a guru of sin? I did not know that. It is beyond my comprehension and study."               He passed by without any answer and went home. He came home and thought, "My studies are not complete yet." Thinking this, he went to cough again. There he met his guru. But he also could not give any answer. Then many munis-sages, and met the guru. Still no answer. Suddenly one day he met a prostitute. Seeing Pandit thinking, ...

Why do you see Lord Krishna wearing yellow clothes in most cases? What does yellow represent here? And what does that mean?

Image
"ईश्वरः परमः कृष्णः सच्चिदानन्द विग्रहः। अनादिरादि गोविन्दः सर्वकारण कारणम्॥" That is: "Lord Krishna is the Supreme Lord, His form is eternal and blissful. He is the origin of eternity and the cause of all causes." Some questions have been answered in the above verse. "Yellow color always gives joy to the mind" , and Lord Sachchidananda Swarup. For this reason Lord Krishna always has a sweet smile on his face and we worship his sweet 'Muralidhar' form. Where other deities are worshiped with their weapons, Lord Krishna is worshiped in the form of his Murali Manohar which shows the form of Lord Sachchidananda. Yellow represents ‘hope and trust’ . This is the difference between a believer and an atheist. An atheist who is a realist and a believer in science, he believes nothing but proof, then why should he have faith in God? But in one case here he is weaker than the believers. No matter how confident a person is, no matter how much he improves, ...

According to the Puranas, the details of Yuga, Manvantar and Kalpa. The identity of Vaibaswat Manu and the incarnation of Matsya.

Image
Who is Manu? Manu means 'father of the human race.'           In the Hindu religion, the period is divided into four ages. Those four ages are - "Satya, Treta, Dwapar and Kali. In 71 Chaturyuga there is one Manvantar (the word Manvantar means the heart of Manu) and in 14 Manvantar there is one kalpa. This is one day of Brahma, the creator of one kalpa." In other words, 14 Manus appeared in one kalpa. At present, 'Shwetabarah Kalpa' is going on, and the 14 Manus of this Shwetabarah Kalpa are - "Swayambhu, Swarochish, Uttami, Tamas, Rivhu, Chakshus, Vaibaswat, Savarni, Brahmasavarni, Dakshasavarni, Dharmasavarni, Rudrasavarni, Varunasavarni and Agnisavarni" ( deferante purans describe deferent name).           We are currently living in the "28th Kali Yuga of Vaibhaswat Manvantar". Here is the story of the beginning of this transcendental transformation.           According to the Brahma Purana, Suryade...

Why are corpses cremated in Sanatan Dharma ?

In our traditional religion cremation is not obligatory, burial can also be given. But there are several reasons behind the burning. Among those reasons I am mentioning three reasons which one is religious, one is social and one is scientific. Religious     Reasons:   According to the traditional religion, the living body is made up of five elements. These five elements are "Kshiti means land, Op means water, Tej means fire, Marut means wind and Byom means sky."         The body is created by the earth, water moves the body in the form of blood, air gives life in the form of breath, fire gives energy in the form of heat and the sky always gives shelter above the head. 'Bhudevi, Varuna, Agni, Pawan and Devaraja Indra' are the five gods controlled by the five elements. After death the bodies donated by the gods have to be returned to them, that is why we cremate corpses.        Agni is called the mouth of the gods, so all the ...

How did Eklavya of Mahabharata spend his last life? What happened to him after giving Gurudakshina to Dronacharya?

Image
There is nothing special about Eklavya in the Mahabharata. However, in 'Harivansh Purana' there are several stories of his life.              According to the Harivansh Purana, Yadav Shrestha Basudev had a brother named ' Devashraba' . When a son is born on this day, it is announced that he will die at the "hands of the Yaduvanshi" . Fearing for his life, Devashrabha floated his son in the river to save him. Floating, the child reached the forest of the kingdom of Magadha. Nishad Raj 'Hiranyadhanu' of that forest adopted him as his son and named him 'Eklavya'. Descended from a great dynasty like the ' Eklavya' Jadu dynasty, he was such a talented and formidable archer.                Long after, when "Lord Krishna killed Kangsa, then to avenge the killing of Kangsa, Kangsa's father-in-law, the Magadha emperor Jarasandha, attacked Mathura 17 times and was severely defeated each time." When Jarasandha learn...
